SENIOR PNEUMATICS PRODUCT ENGINEER
IMPACT and OPPORTUNITY
The Senior Pneumatics Product Engineer is responsible for supporting and executing the implementation of Gentherm’s industry leading seat comfort products for lumbar and massage into production. This role includes technical contributions, collaborating externally with automotive customers, and internally with engineering, testing, program management, and manufacturing
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure that product is designed within various industry quality standards according to applicable specification in a safe, cost efficient and timely manner while following the APQP process
- Lead and drive Integrated Product Development Teams taking complete ownership of pneumatic product development
- Act as a technical liaison between customer and project management
- Building relationships with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders
- Ability to utilize engineering techniques to solve complex problems
- Initiate, review, and release design FMEA’s, DVP&R, BOM, and drawings
- Attend, support, and participate in engineering development meetings and program launches with the customer and/or the manufacturing plant(s)
- Assist in the establishment of system requirements and specifications using engineering and technical disciplines
- Assure that project timing, performance, and cost targets are met
- Establish a design review team, lead design reviews, and audit design progress through product life cycle
- Assure product testing is completed, analyzed, and that results are documented, meet design specifications and communicated
- Support production and quality departments with design related issues through product validation
- Lead product improvement and cost reduction efforts through the product life cycle
- Ensure development and validation is executed within the program ED&D budget
- Manage BOM cost within program allowable cost target
- Drive cost reduction and program efficiency improvements (VAVE) related to the projects
- Involved from concept inception through production launch of components and assemblies
- Support of Project Management process, providing documentation and cross functional involvement through product launch
- Recognized as a technical expert and leveraged as a technical resource by the larger Global organization.
- Serves as a technical interface to both suppliers and customers
- Acts as an advisor to the Engineering department regarding standards, customer requirements and the state of the art of engineering methods, tools and practices. Review all new material introductions
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive industry dealing with pneumatic comfort components
- Experience with OEM or Tier 1 automotive part design, seating design, and development
- Ability to read and comprehend basic engineering drawings, tooling prints, and product and test specifications
- Able to interpret and prioritize assigned tasks
- Experience in design, development, and manufacturing of automotive products, primarily related to pneumatic seat comfort
- Strong familiarity of automotive product development and project monitoring tools, including DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, APQP
- Strong familiarity with plastics, injection molding capabilities, and assembly and test processes
- Ability to successfully interface with customers, associates, and the community
- Experience with Engineering problem solving techniques
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Direct CAD experience and demonstrated CAD capabilities in NX and/or CATIA V5
- Experience with GD&T and tolerance stack analysis
- Experience with injection molding methods and equipment
- Experience with simulation tools (such as FEA, CFD etc.)
- Experience with automotive interiors
- Automotive project management experience
- Thermal Management experience
- Pneumatic system experience
