Marketing Technology and UI/UX Intern

Impact and Opportunity

Our Summer Internship Program is a supervised program designed to enhance professional development by providing the chance to “test drive” Gentherm and step into our organization to learn about our culture and career possibilities for your future. Our Summer program formally runs from May 17, 2027 through August 6, 2027.

The interns will follow a cohort-style program with 15 other students, as they navigate learning Gentherm, our Mission, Values, and our Business Goals. The cohort will have the opportunity to interact and learn from Executive Leaders across the organizations through monthly learning sessions, as well as participate in both community and company events.

Students complete a predetermined project related to department goals and the student’s area of study. The program is designed to be an experiential learning that integrates knowledge learned in the classroom and practical application in a professional setting.

This internship combines technology problem-solving with UI/UX design. Under the guidance of Marketing, UX and engineering team members, the intern will help evaluate tools, prototype digital experiences and explore AI-assisted automation that improves marketing workflows and communicates Gentherm’s product technologies. The focus is on understanding a need, selecting a practical approach and testing a usable solution.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Marketing, UX, engineering and product teams to clarify technology needs, user goals and constraints for assigned projects.
  • Investigate existing tools and workflows before proposing a new build; compare approaches and recommend practical solutions based on usability, technical feasibility and expected value.
  • Map user journeys and workflow steps to identify opportunities to improve digital experiences or automate repetitive tasks.
  • Design user interfaces for websites, digital tools and product demonstrations, creating wireframes, high-fidelity screen designs and interactive prototypes in Figma or similar tools.
  • Build and refine functional prototypes using HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with approved low-code and AI-assisted tools as appropriate.
  • Explore approved AI tools to support prototyping and develop simple assistants or workflows; test outputs against defined project requirements.
  • Assist with simple API integrations and data connections in approved prototype environments, with guidance from technical team members.
  • Support small automation or dashboard projects that reduce manual work or make marketing information easier to use.
  • Apply user-centered design and accessibility principles while maintaining established UX and brand standards.
  • Support user research and usability testing, document findings and refine solutions based on user and stakeholder feedback.
  • Review and troubleshoot prototype code, including AI-generated code, and seek technical support for issues beyond current skill level.
  • Translate product technology into clear interactive demonstrations, using interface animation or supporting visuals where they improve understanding.
  • Document tool evaluations, setup steps, reusable components and prototype limitations to support maintenance and handoff.
  • Coordinate with IT and engineering on integration, data handling and implementation requirements before a prototype moves into a live environment.
  • Present recommendations and working prototypes, explain design and technology choices, and manage assigned tasks and deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in school and have finished their freshman year by the start of the internship program.
  • Familiar with Microsoft products.
  • Able to be on-site 4 days a week (up to 5) at our facilities in Novi, Michigan
  • Currently pursuing a degree, certificate or related coursework in human-computer interaction, information systems, computer science, UX/UI or interaction design, digital technology or a related discipline, with exposure to both design and technology.
  • Portfolio or project examples demonstrating visual UI design and user-experience thinking, with a working demo or coursework showing basic technical prototyping; able to explain the problem, approach and personal contribution.
  • Working knowledge of Figma or similar interface design and prototyping tools.
  • Foundational UI design skills, including visual hierarchy, typography, layout, color, responsive design and consistent use of interface components.
  • Basic understanding of HTML, CSS and JavaScript, with the ability to read, modify and troubleshoot simple code under guidance.
  • Foundational understanding of user-centered design, interaction design, usability and accessibility.
  • Curiosity and initiative in investigating tools, learning unfamiliar technology and breaking open-ended problems into manageable tasks.
  • Interest in practical applications of AI and workflow automation, with a willingness to evaluate outputs rather than accept them without review.
  • Ability to communicate design and technology decisions clearly, receive feedback and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to organize assigned work, manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
