Senior Software Engineer
IMPACT and OPPORTUNITY
Gentherm is transforming the future of personalized passenger thermal comfort with the smart, individual climate zone solution named ClimateSense™, tailored to the autonomous, electrified, and ridesharing ecosystem of the future. Software is the key driver for the transformation of Gentherm as well as for an entire industry. Gentherm is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Software Engineer in the Advanced Engineering Organization based in Northville, MI. This position will be responsible for leading design, development and verification of microclimate control algorithms. This position plays a critical role in bringing innovative solutions and cabin technologies to market that will change the automotive comfort industry.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for design and development of software using MATLAB Simulink, Embedded C, and related tools
- Provide innovative engineering solutions to meet technical objectives and challenges as it pertains to thermal control systems of the future
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally, work hands-on, and execute on open-ended projects in a fast-paced, resource-constrained environment
- Break down technical objectives into smaller software tasks and evaluation criteria adhering to architecture re-use and scalability
- Apply best practice software development process and technical problem solving
- Drive innovation and research of
- Ensure software quality through design documentation, review, and test
- Electronics product and feature development experience
- Mentor junior team members to develop skills, problem solving, and process adherence
MINIMUN QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science or equivalent
- 3+ years software development using embedded C and/or MATLAB Simulink, preferably in an automotive setting
- Experience in developing embedded control algorithms using Model-Based Design and MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow
- Experience creating / adhering to abstracted and scalable software architectures
- Experience with development, integration and test of generated code to various hardware targets
- Experience in problem identification and resolution and innovative projects
- Experience working in distributed repositories and managing merge/pull requests in GitHub/GitLab
- Strong communication and business relation skills
- History analyzing and parsing data to develop technical insights and make decisions
- Experience implementing closed loop control
- Self-starter with ability to make decisions and collaborate with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
- Experience with requirements and sprint management tools such as DOORS, JAZZ and JIRA
- Basic project management skills, including planning and organization, decision making, problem solving, prioritizing
- Ability to prepare and present technical written reports and other documents to peers and management
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of working experience in an automotive engineering environment, advanced or high-volume production programs
- 5+ year embedded software design using C code with memory and functional optimizations
- Controls experience in dynamic multiple input, multiple outputs systems
- Experience with diagnostics, namely UDS and industry standard implementations for measurements and calibrations
- Experience with thermal systems and properties of heat transfer
- Experience in HVAC or other climate control applications
- Experience using automotive standard tools (debuggers, emulators, compilers, CAN/LIN)
- Use of rapid prototyping software development tool chains and build tools
- Experience developing test harness’, plant models, and test automation
- Experience with automotive process standards (ASPICE, UDS, ISO-26262)
- Test setup, data logging, charting, analysis using Vector CANalyzer tools
- Experience with Python or similar automated data processing script language
- Agile Development methodology (SCRUM)
