The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer will design battery cooling systems, perform electronics packaging of electronic and electromechanical devices and design electrical components such as flex circuits, busbars and wire harnesses. The cooling systems may include the use of thermoelectric devices, liquid cooling or forced air cooling.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (Other duties may be assigned):

  • Design product assemblies utilizing Creo (primary) and Catia V5 (secondary).
  • Direct and supply information to FEA & CFD specialists to develop complex detailed FEA & CFD models.
  • Perform basic FEA & CFD analysis utilizing Creo analysis tools (desired).
  • Create 2D assembly drawings as required utilizing primarily Creo or Catia V5.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Responsible for product designs suited for high volume manufacturing assembly processes including high pressure die casting, sheet metal stamping, laser welding, resistance welding, friction stir welding, laser stir welding and other joining processes.
  • Work with a global cross-functional team in the development of new products.
  • Work with technicians and other technical staff to build and test prototypes of the battery cooling system and other components.
  • Achieve cost effective designs through close coordination with technical staff, while establishing the supply chain for early prototype parts.
  • Use analytical models to evaluate design trade-offs. Conceptualize and mature products from an early stage through product validation.
  • Support internal / external technical and program reviews.
  • Support Business Development activity with engineering input.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficient in Creo and CATIA V5. Note: Could be proficient in Catia V5 with willingness to train in Creo or vice versa.
  • Experience in electro-mechanical product design and packaging for high volume automotive markets.
  • Knowledge of injection molding, casting and stamping processes.
  • Experience in flex circuits a plus.
  • Experience in Creo FEA and CFD a plus.
  • Experience in GT-SUITE 1D thermal modeling a plus.
  • Experience in connector systems is a plus.
  • Experience in wire harnesses design a plus.
  • Experience in design of busbars and battery modules or systems a plus.
  • Experience in design of battery packs or understanding of battery pack design a plus.

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering required.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • 8+ years’ experience in electronics packaging, designing electromechanical components.
  • Track record of successfully launching new products into production, on time and within budget.
  • Experience designing flex circuits, heat transfer products, cooling of electronics or battery packs is highly desirable.
