Global Senior Director, Total Rewards


In a newly created position the Global Senior Director, Total Rewards will lead the design, development, implementation and administration of all global total rewards programs (compensation/executive compensation and benefits) and HR technology (HCM/HRIS) that will allow Gentherm to attract, motivate and retain high performing talent. Reporting directly to the Chief Human Resources Officer, this role is a critical HR leader who collaborates closely with HR COEs/HRBPs as well as functional partners (Legal, Finance) and requires executive and board level strategic communication responsibilities.

  • Global compensation responsibilities for the organization (all functions and regions) include base and total cash compensation, job evaluation, merit and incentive programs, performance management and stock administration, as well as market competitive analyses and procedures to ensure well-designed pay programs.
  • Benchmark activities across all areas of rewards to elevate our understanding of our compensation competitiveness globally, and evolve it over time to meet the changing landscape of total rewards, including executive compensation.
  • Oversee/develop the review and evaluation of executive compensation, including changes to incentive compensation programs to ensure they are performance driven, market competitive, appropriately leveraged and accurately administered.
  • Benefits responsibilities include development and oversight of health and retirement programs including global severance planning, assessing competitiveness of the existing benefits programs in light of total compensation and identify, recommend and implement changes to improve effectiveness in hiring and retaining employees.
  • Leads and manages all aspects of the planning, development, testing, implementation, customer reporting and user support for the HCM and HRIS systems. This includes integration of HRIS with other business applications as appropriate.
  • Significant expertise with CEOs, C-Suite Executives, Compensation Committees, coupled with Board level presentation development. Ability to influence and guide management team to resolve challenging compensation matters.
  • Partner with HR, Recruiting, Finance, and Leadership to understand needs related to compensation and benefits.
  • Provide subject matter expertise and accurately interpret, counsel, communicate, and educate HR Business Partners, managers and executives on pay decisions, policy and guideline interpretations, and job evaluations.
  • Work with the Legal and Finance team as well as the Board’s Compensation Committee to design, update, communicate and disclose executive compensation plans.
  • Develop comprehensive, effective communications strategies to share Total Rewards programs with all employees.
  • Oversee and implement global process improvements relating to expatriate and immigration programs.
  • Review global talent mobility program to design and implement process improvements to address challenges, process gaps, internal international transfers, and global policy updates.


  • 15+ years of global Compensation and Benefits planning, with significant experience in planning in: 
    • Comprehensive experience in a public company in a similar role 
    • Global experience, multiple countries, regions 
    • Public company exposure, comfortable and experienced with complexity
    • Executive Compensation / Compensation Committee experience
  • 3+ years strategic leadership of direct reports and cross functional teams
  • Significant compensation and benefits plan technical experience, as well as tax and regulatory knowledge in varied countries.
  • Knowledgeable on legislation impacting pay programs. Maintain awareness of economic and pay practice trends within industry. Solid foundation in compensation theories and practices.
  • Possess superior communication, presentation, project management, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent prioritization skills with a strong ability to manage change
  • Ability to critically review, summarize, and report findings and recommendations.
  • Ability to attract, retain, engage and develop teams in a fast-paced, transformational environment
  • Solid working knowledge of HRIS systems.
  • Familiarity with HCM systems.
