GLOBAL DIRECTOR VAVE

 

IMPACT AND OPPORTUNITY

Deliver material savings through VAVE across business units on current business to improve profitability and instill lowest cost design standards into new product development. Drive competitiveness through cost performance on the largest cost model element, material. Integrating all existing continuous improvement activities to ensure consistency with company strategies and preventing duplication of efforts at different sites.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Current Year VAVE Material Performance

  • Own the design material cost in total for each BU
  • Develop the plan for required material VAVE performance to achieve EBITDA target
  • Quantify prior year VAVE performance and set metrics to exceed
  • Define savings initiatives for each product and program that can be achieved through design
  • Prioritize initiatives by savings potential, ease of implementation, and profit impact
  • Lead design engineering to execute initiatives and coordinate with sales to limit customer sharing of savings.
  • Coordinate with and provide engineering support for other material savings initiatives around purchased price supplier reductions, freight reductions, and factory scrap/build efficiency issue elimination.
  • Document results and report VAVE metrics with initiative progress and obstacles during monthly steering committee meetings.
  • Enabling speed of execution to maximize returns and enjoy business benefits
  • Efficient improvement action across all functions; direct escalation of obstacles and quick recovery actions to be back on track
OTHER CORE FUNCTIONS

Instill Lowest Cost Design Standards into all New Product Development

  • Create a standardized Bill of Design and Bill of Material to be adhered to in all awarded business Base on preferred materials and components that meet performance requirements at lowest cost. Include critical design standards as applied.
  • Drive proliferation and an optimized buy through increasing volumes on BOD/BOM. Assist in sourcing to secure a leveraged buy.
  • Develop metric and method to measure compliance to BOD and BOM on each design.

 

Benchmark Competitive Designs for Adoption

  • Identify key market competitors and conduct tear downs and workshops to uncover value ideas.
  • Research competitor direction for product portfolio and innovation plans
  • Leverage low cost design expertise internally or externally (example: China)

 

Support Business Pursuits

  • Analyze designs for cost effectiveness
  • Scrub BOM for preferred low cost components and lowest prices suppliers
  • Ensure accuracy of BOM costs
  • Ensure realistic YOY performance is built into business case
QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • University degree in Engineering or equivalent professional experience
  • Several years of experience in technical and commercial product related context
  • International leadership experience

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Fluent in English language (written and spoken), german would be a benefit
  • Deep technical knowledge about product lines
  • Intercultural competencies
  • Affinity to financial numbers and analytical capabilities
