Global Director, Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental Programs
Candidates will be considered for this role based on their location, with the position available in one of the following locations: Northville, Michigan; Monterrey, Mexico; or Pilisszentivan, Hungary
IMPACT and OPPORTUNITY
The Global Director of Health, Safety, Security and Environmental (HSSE) Programs is committed to protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, customers and the global communities where we operate, while supporting our stakeholders in their mission to develop extraordinary products. In this role you will support a fast-paced, results driven culture and further develop the evolving global HSSE program in a changing global climate with a growing emphasis on sustainability. As a key leader, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to align health, security and safety initiatives with Gentherm’s strategic objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and execute an HSSE strategy by integrating and harmonizing our processes, people, infrastructure and culture.
- Monitor and address emerging risks, regulatory changes and industry trends.
- Implement and integrate HSSE best practices into all areas of the business. Build a high performing network of cross functional members that fosters a proactive HSSE mindset.
- Provide subject matter expertise through participation in global EHS team activities and corporate ESG Steering Committee.
- Collaborate with regional leaders to adapt global strategies to local needs and regulatory requirements.
- Develop, maintain and enhance company HSSE and on premises Security Programs to meet and exceed both global legislation and corporate requirements.
- Ensure that HSSE procedures, programs and practices are integrated into business operations; establish compliance and assurance protocols; measure results; and share lessons learned
- Develop and lead training initiatives to cultivate safety awareness and environmental responsibility across all organizational levels
- Implement systems for monitoring and improving safety performance across all geographies.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Drive the adoption of innovative digital technologies and predictive analytics to enhance risk management and sustainability metrics
- Support global enterprise risk management by implementing effective HSSE risk management methodologies for operations such as new product introductions for R&D and commercial. Ensure compliance with global and regional regulations, (e.g., OSHA, ISO 14001 and 45001, etc.)
- Lead risk assessments, audits, and investigation to proactively address vulnerabilities.
- Manage environmental, safety, and sustainability metrics while overseeing annual surveys to support ESG objectives and the company’s Sustainability Report.
- Develop, maintain and manage the company’s worker’s compensation standards and procedures. Implement all aspects of the program, including claims investigations, settlements, and litigation.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external agencies, security firms, and industry groups.
- Develop and maintain HSE business continuity plans and manage international travel risks to ensure employee safety and security.
- Collaborate with regional teams to manage the HSSE budget, conduct cost-benefit analyses, and prioritize safety and security improvements with efficient resource use.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Engineering, Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Environmental Science.
- 15 years’ experience in Environmental, Health, and Safety with in depth knowledge of HSSE regulatory requirements and technical codes of practice. Particularly OSHA, and global regulations.
- 5 years of experience managing Global HSSE programs in a multi-site manufacturing environment.
- 5 years of experience leading a team with diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Demonstrated experience with crisis management, creating and implementing emergency response plans for HSSE related issues (e.g. COVID-19, H1N1, Active Shooter, Bomb Threat, Weather Conditions) while maintaining business continuity.
- Ability to lead an investigation using established investigation techniques.
- Collaborate with leadership teams to motivate change and make an impact.
- Have proven expertise in the HSSE functional space and hold professional certifications in the industry
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, influence, planning, organization, and time management skills. Strong leadership abilities with energy and enthusiasm.
- Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree in a relevant field or MBA Preferred
- Multi-Lingual
- Green or Black Belt Certification
- Automotive, Electronics, or Medical Device manufacturing
- Experience with Operational Excellence and Lean Six Sigma methodologies
- Certifications such as Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), or similar credentials strongly recommended
