DATA SCIENTIST

 

IMPACT and OPPORTUNITY

 

At Gentherm, we are expanding our human research testing capabilities and are looking for a data scientist to join our new thermal physiology research team. The team sits at the fore front of the company’s mission in developing thermal solutions that improve health, wellness and comfort.

The data scientist will play an integral role in managing and analyzing the influx of quantitative and qualitative data from the thermophysiology research team and advanced engineering teams. This includes human physiological and perceptual data from laboratory based and real-world driving studies and automotive data from vehicles and our thermal solutions. The data scientist will assist in the development of individual-specific mathematical models and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms for predicting personalized comfort and wellness.

Whilst the candidate should be grounded in fundamental principles of data science methods, they should also know how to rise above the numbers and explain essential insights to users at all levels. Application of data is at the heart of our mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Apply a wide array of analytic skills including signal processing, statistics, machine/deep learning, and optimization to extract insights from laboratory-based and real-world data
  • Work with multiple data streams; both static and dynamic
  • Produce thermal comfort and wellness models captured from biometric sensors
  • Guide data collection, archival and curation for integration into databases with high data quality, transparency, validity and reliability (i.e. data management plan)
  • Support our research team in writing technical reports backed by statistical analysis.
  • Work simultaneously on multiple projects involving a diverse team of physiologist, research scientist and engineers
  • Ensure compliance with data protection policies (e.g. HIPAA).
  • Communicate data using appropriate data visualization tools to other departments and senior management.
  • Participates in miscellaneous research efforts within the Gentherm R&D team.

QUALIFICATIONS

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in data science, biostatistics, mathematics, or related field.
  • OR MSc. in data science, biostatistics, mathematics, or a related field, plus:
    • 3-5 years’ experience working in data science, machine learning, or other data related positions.
  • MSc. in data science, biostatistics, mathematics, or a related field.
  • Concrete knowledge of a variety of data science methods, machine learning algorithms and production level programming principles
  • Experience with statistical software packages and/or machine learning libraries and programming languages (Python, R etc.)
  • Ability to automate experimental data acquisition and analysis
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Creative problem solving skills

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in physiology, psychology, or ergonomics
