Engineering Co-Op




This co-op position provides an opportunity to work on a rotational basis within several functions of the Test Lab at our Farmington Hills Technical Center.  The student will work with the electrical engineers from testing and design to review procedures, set up tests and collect data for design and production validation testing required by OEMs.  The four functional areas the student will work in are (1) Electromagnetic Capability (EMC) test engineering, (2) Environmental test engineering (3) Systems Engineering (4) Functional Test Engineering. In all four areas, the student will gain soft skills and technical skills through testing, reporting, troubleshooting, scheduling, etc.



Throughout the rotation, you will support/execute on the following areas:

  • How to use the engineering equipment such as multimeter, oscilloscope, function generator, power supply, … etc.
  • Learn EMC test methods
  • How to operate the climate chambers and mechanical machines
  • How to perform ENV tests, EMC test and functional tests
  • Process the test request requirements and communicate with the stakeholders
  • Participate in 5S projects and weekly walkthroughs in all areas of the lab
  • Summarize completed work and communicate the ongoing work to the team
  • Understand functionality of part (operation criteria) for before, during and after testing
  • Troubleshoot issues with test setups
  • Collaborate with external labs for testing
  • Communicate with other Gentherm labs on innovation projects



Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree within one of the following majors:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
  • Industrial Engineering
  • Computer Science/ Computer Engineering


In addition, the candidate should possess:

  • Strong people skills in face-to-face interactions with teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of a team

This position will work on-site at our Gentherm Technical Center in Farmington Hills, MI.

  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 10 hours per day

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; safety shoes steel toe or other ASTM standard), gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket/vest or apron and arm guards)
