IMPACT and OPPORTUNITY

As a Senior Electrical Engineer with Gentherm Medical, you will serve as an Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the Engineering department. In this role you will provide electrical engineering leadership and expertise to support product and/or process development and lifecycle management, including design, development, analysis, testing, troubleshooting, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create/maintain applicable DHF/DMR documentation.
  • Extensive experience with Altium or other schematic capture and layout tool.
  • Evaluate alternatively sourced electrical components to support manufacturing/end user needs.
  • Identify and support the creation of or improvements to procedures, policies, processes, systems, and technology.
  • Practical experience with risk assessment methods (i.e. DFMEA).
  • Provide mentorship to junior electrical engineering team members.
  • Support and conduct root cause analysis, verification and validation testing, manufacturing transfer activities, component obsolescence management for existing product.
  • Translates product requirements into electrical design specs, coordinating with internal & external resources to ensure timely realization of project deliverables.
  • Through the design process, you may design circuits including but not limited to Schematic Capture, Layout and Failure Mode Analysis for PCBA’s, Cables and other electromechanical components.
  • Work with external testing houses to ensure system meets EMC/EMI standard requirements.
  • Work on engineering change notices and own design change from request to implementation.
  • Works with and oversees external development partners who have electrical project responsibilities to ensure timely realization of project deliverables.
  • Working knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals including, analog/digital design, sensors, optoelectronics, embedded microcontrollers, PCB boards, and EMC.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 6+ years’ experience in similar role.
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, troubleshoot, and test electrical designs.
  • Advanced understanding of electrical components like microcontrollers, power supplies, motor control designs and manufacturing methods including common failure mode.
  • Experience with PCB Schematic & Layout process and tools (Altium Designer or similar schematic and board layout software).
  • Experience using electronic hardware lab tools for the development of design (e.g., Oscilloscope, Electronic Loads, Function Generator, Spectrum Analyzer, Environmental Chambers).
  • Experience with design control processes following ISO 13485 or FDA 21 CFR 820 Design Control Guidance for Medical Device Manufacturers.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Understanding of applicable risk/electrical safety standards (ISO 14971, IEC-60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2).
  • Working knowledge of electrical design process, electrical components, and manufacturing methods.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience working in the Medical Device Industry
  • Expert level knowledge on communication protocols (SPI, I2C, CAN, USB, RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet) and wireless technologies (Wi-Fi, Bluetooth)
  • Basic understanding of software life cycle for medical devices (IEC 62304)
